Fungi have in the region of 10,000 genes which can produce 10,000 proteins which can be broken down/modified to generate significantly more smaller proteins which are found in extracts from fungi. AlerGenetica's advantages are three-fold. Firstly the A fumigatus genome has been sequenced we can use this information coupled with AlerGenetica's bioinformatics skills to predict all the likely proteins of A. fumigatus which are likely to cause allergies. A foundation patent application on this research has filed.

Secondly, candidate allergy causing proteins will be expressed and validated using an AlerGenetica propriety screen to rank their allergy causing potential.

Thirdly, we have unique access to patients the University of Manchester, a leading fungal allergy research center. We will be able to rapidlyidentify the specific fungal proteins causing the allergy in the patient. Based upon this information from a population are allergy patients, we will be able to develop customized therapies for these patients. Asthma deaths will increase by almost 20% in the next 10 years if no urgent action is taken.
